Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@thenext9.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The Next 9 is a minority-led, advocacy-driven, fiscally sponsored nonprofit dedicated to addressing maternal health disparities—especially preeclampsia and postpartum complications that disproportionately impact Black and Brown mothers. Born from lived experience and a critical need for change, The Next 9 exists to provide education, advocacy, and direct support that empowers mothers through pregnancy and postpartum.

There are several meaningful ways to stand with us:

  • Donate to help fund care kits, therapy access, and advocacy programs that protect mothers at risk.

  • Share our mission on social media, at work, or in your community to raise awareness about preeclampsia and maternal health disparities.

  • Partner with us if you're a healthcare provider, therapist, doula, or maternal health advocate—we’d love to collaborate.

  • Volunteer your time or talents, especially in outreach, education, photography, or mental health support.

  • Sponsor a program as a business, foundation, or individual committed to equity in maternal care.

Every act of support—big or small—helps us fight for mothers who are too often overlooked. Thank you for showing up.

Founded with a mission to eliminate barriers to therapy for Black and Brown communities, the Therapy Fund Foundation is rooted in compassion, advocacy, and culturally relevant care. As our fiscal sponsor, they provide the legal, financial, and administrative support that allows The Next 9 to grow and serve mothers across Washington State and beyond.

The name "The Next 9" symbolizes our commitment to supporting mothers during the critical periods of their journey—whether it's the next 9 months of pregnancy, 9 weeks of postpartum recovery, 9 days of navigating new challenges, 9 hours of urgent care, or 9 seconds of critical decisions. Our goal is to ensure that no mother feels alone during these pivotal moments.

We prioritize Black & Brown mothers who are disproportionately affected by maternal health complications and systemic inequities. However, our programs—such as the Preeclampsia Protection Program—are available to all mothers in need of resources and support.

We currently offer three core programs:

  1. Preeclampsia Protection Program – Provides necessary tools for self-monitoring blood pressure and postpartum health.
  2. Healing Her Heartbeat –  Connects mothers with mental health resources and culturally relevant therapy for those experiencing pregnancy complications, birth trauma, postpartum struggles, or loss.
  3. BIPOC Birth Equity & Recovery Fund – Focuses on advocacy, education, and systemic change to reduce racial disparities in maternal health.

Our work focuses on education, access, and advocacy. We provide life-saving tools like blood pressure monitors, self-monitoring kits, and culturally responsive mental health support. We also advocate for systemic changes in maternal healthcare and work to ensure BIPOC mothers receive equitable care and treatment.

Mothers in need of support can apply for our programs directly through the website. While we’re currently launching our first initiatives in Washington State, we look forward to expanding our reach nationwide. If you have questions or need help accessing support, please email us at info@thenext9.org.
